Overview

Ribosomal protein L36a pseudogene 20 (RPL36AP20) is one of multiple processed pseudogenes of the ribosomal protein L36a gene (RPL36A) dispersed throughout the human genome[9][3]. Pseudogenes are typically non-functional genomic sequences that arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and do not encode active proteins, nor do they participate in canonical molecular or cellular functions. RPL36AP20 does not act as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, transcription factor, or any functional molecular target and cannot be modulated by small molecules, biologics, or other drugs. In contrast, its parent gene, ribosomal protein L36a (RPL36A), encodes a constituent protein of the cytoplasmic 60S ribosomal subunit and is involved in protein synthesis, with possible relevance in cancer biology[1][7][4]. However, RPL36AP20 itself has no known functional or therapeutic relevance.
