RPL36AP27 is a processed pseudogene derived from the coding gene for ribosomal protein L36a. Pseudogenes are non-functional segments of DNA that resemble protein-coding genes but generally lack the capacity to encode a functional protein due to accumulation of disruptive mutations or other sequence defects. RPL36AP27 does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a molecular target for therapeutic intervention. Unlike its parent gene RPL36A, which encodes a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, RPL36AP27 has no known biological or therapeutic function.
