Ribosomal protein L36a pseudogene 31 (RPL36AP31) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that is related by sequence to the protein-coding gene RPL36A, which encodes a structural component of the 60S large subunit of the ribosome. Processed pseudogenes such as RPL36AP31 typically lack the ability to encode functional proteins and are considered "noncoding". While some pseudogenes have regulatory roles in modulating the expression of protein-coding genes (e.g., by acting as decoys for microRNAs or sources of siRNAs), specific functions for RPL36AP31 have not been described in the literature. No disease associations, drug interactions, or biomarker uses have been reported for this pseudogene.
