RPL36AP37 is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L36a (RPL36A) gene family. Processed pseudogenes are DNA segments originating from retrotransposed mRNA copies of coding genes that have subsequently lost their protein-coding potential due to disabling mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons[3]. While some ribosomal protein pseudogenes may occasionally be mistaken for functional genes, the vast majority—including those of the RPL36A type—do not produce functional proteins and do not serve established roles in cellular biology, disease pathways, or as drug targets[3]. Some pseudogenes can be transcribed, but there is no evidence of RPL36AP37 involvement in disease mechanisms, drug interactions, biomarker development, or safety-related concerns. This name (“cell growth-inhibiting protein 15”) is not established in the scientific literature as a protein or functional gene.
