Ribosomal protein L36a pseudogene 8 (RPL36AP8) is a pseudogene in the human genome, meaning it is a genomic sequence similar to a known gene but generally considered non-functional in terms of protein-coding ability[1][2][6][8]. This gene is categorized solely as a pseudogene, not as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[1][6]. Its only relevant “family” is the pseudogene group related to ribosomal proteins. There are no documented interacting drugs, therapeutic mechanisms, or established biomarker roles for RPL36AP8. There is no evidence that RPL36AP8 has direct disease involvement or safety concerns. While pseudogene transcripts in general can influence gene expression by regulating their functional homologs (as shown for other pseudogenes such as PTENP1 and KRASP1)[4], there are no published reports of such functions for RPL36AP8.
