Ribosomal protein L37 pseudogene 23 (RPL37P23) is a gene sequence in the human genome homologous to the protein-coding ribosomal protein L37 gene. As a pseudogene, RPL37P23 does not encode a functional protein or participate in ribosomal assembly or protein synthesis. Pseudogenes like RPL37P23 are typically non-functional remnants of genes that may occasionally play regulatory roles, such as influencing gene expression as noncoding RNAs or having evolutionary significance, but there is no evidence that RPL37P23 has any therapeutic, biomarker, or disease roles. Its parent gene, RPL37, encodes a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[1][6].
