Ribosomal protein L37 pseudogene 4 (RPL37P4; also RL37P2) is a transcribed processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 21 (21q21.1). It shares sequence similarity with the functional gene encoding ribosomal protein L37 (RPL37), which is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis. RPL37P4 arose from retrotransposition events and does not encode a functional protein. While most pseudogenes, including RPL37P4, are considered nonfunctional, some pseudogenes elsewhere in the genome may have regulatory roles, but no such functions have been demonstrated for RPL37P4. It is not used as a therapeutic target, diagnostic marker, or biomarker, nor is it associated with drug action or disease.
