It is a processed, non-protein-coding sequence derived from the gene encoding ribosomal protein L37a (RPL37A), which itself is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit. RPL37AP1 does not encode a functional protein and has no known biological function, disease association, or therapeutic relevance. It exists as a remnant of genomic duplication and retrotransposition, as is typical for ribosomal protein pseudogenes.
