Ribosomal protein L39 pseudogene 36 (RPL39P36) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome. Pseudogenes are repetitive genetic elements resembling functional genes, but harbor mutations or deletions that prevent expression of a functional protein. RPL39P36 is derived from the parent gene ribosomal protein L39 (RPL39), which encodes a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit[1][7]. Unlike the parent gene, RPL39P36 does not encode a functional ribosomal protein or participate in ribosomal assembly or protein synthesis[3][5]. The existence of such pseudogenes reflects historical duplication and retrotransposition events[4]. There are multiple RPL39-related pseudogenes scattered throughout the genome, all believed to lack biological activity, relevance for drug targeting, or disease association[3][8][10]. No evidence supports use of RPL39P36 as a therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or safety concern in clinical or research settings[3][5]. Its role is confined to being a non-functional genomic artifact.
