Overview

Ribosomal protein L4 pseudogene 4 (RPL4P4), also known as ENSG00000233157 or LOC100419506, is a processed pseudogene derived from the parent ribosomal protein L4 gene. Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes like RPL4P4 typically do not code for functional proteins but can have regulatory functions, such as modulating the expression of their parental gene or affecting cellular pathways through non-coding RNA mechanisms. RPL4P4 is highly expressed in several tumor types, especially glioma, and has been identified as an independent prognostic biomarker for malignancy and poor outcome in glioma patients. Elevated RPL4P4 expression correlates with increased immune cell infiltration, especially M2-type macrophages, indicating a potential role in shaping the tumor microenvironment and immune suppression. While RPL4P4 is not a traditional therapeutic target like a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, its expression may represent a new avenue for research in cancer prognosis and possibly therapeutic intervention by targeting its regulatory pathways
