Overview

Ribosomal protein L41 pseudogene 2 (RPL41P2) is a non-coding genomic DNA sequence that resembles the functional ribosomal protein L41 gene (RPL41) but does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes like RPL41P2 arise from duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes but have accumulated mutations or structural changes that render them nonfunctional. There are multiple RPL41-related pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome[4][9][12]. RPL41P2, specifically, is annotated as a pseudogene and is not believed to have any established biological role or therapeutic relevance[4][9]. Unlike the canonical RPL41 gene, which codes for a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit and is involved in protein synthesis[1][5][6], RPL41P2 is not translated into protein. Pseudogenes are often used in genomic and evolutionary studies but are not targets for therapeutics, nor are they significant as biomarkers, interactors with drugs, or sources of safety concerns in therapy[4][9][12].
