Overview

RPL5P11 is a processed pseudogene derived from the functional RPL5 gene, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis and regulation of p53-mediated cell cycle arrest and tumor suppression. Pseudogenes like RPL5P11 do not encode functional proteins and are not involved in cellular processes or disease mechanisms attributed to the parent gene. RPL5 encodes ribosomal protein L5, crucial in ribosome biogenesis, 5S rRNA transport, and p53 regulation. Pseudogenes (denoted by a 'P' and a number, as in RPL5P11) are genetic elements similar to functional genes but lack protein-coding potential due to mutations or the absence of regulatory elements. RPL5P11 itself is not transcribed or translated into a functional protein, and no disease involvement, drug interactions, or biomarker roles have been described. If your interest is in the functional protein (ribosomal protein L5), refer to RPL5 rather than RPL5P11. Multiple pseudogenes exist for most ribosomal proteins, and neither these pseudogenes nor RPL5P11 are therapeutic targets or receptors.
