Overview

Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 13 (RPL5P13) is a human processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L5 (RPL5) gene. Unlike RPL5, which encodes a structural protein of the 60S ribosomal subunit with vital roles in protein synthesis and some regulatory processes, RPL5P13 does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes like RPL5P13 are genomic sequences similar to known genes but are non-functional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements. There is currently no evidence suggesting a unique biological function, disease association, or utility as a therapeutic target for RPL5P13[1][2][4]. Key distinction: Information about clinical significance, drug targets, or biological roles refers to the genuine protein-coding gene *RPL5*, not to RPL5P13, which is a non-coding and non-functional pseudogene[1][2][4].
