Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 24 (RPL5P24) is a non-functional, processed pseudogene corresponding to the ribosomal protein L5 gene. Pseudogenes like RPL5P24 arise via duplication or retrotransposition events, resulting in gene-like sequences that remain in the genome but are generally transcriptionally inactive and non-functional[8]. Such pseudogenes are not considered functional targets for therapeutics, receptors, enzymes, or biomarkers, and their presence is primarily of bioinformatic interest or for evolutionary studies[8].
