Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 28 (RPL5P28) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L5 (RPL5) gene. Pseudogenes are non-functional genomic DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but have lost their protein-coding ability due to mutations such as insertions, deletions, or stop codons. There is no evidence that RPL5P28 encodes a functional protein or RNA, and it is not known to participate in ribosome biogenesis, protein synthesis, or other cellular processes. It is one of multiple dispersed pseudogenes resulting from the RPL5 gene, which itself encodes a core component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit essential for protein synthesis. There is no documented association of RPL5P28 with any disease, cellular function, drug interaction, or clinical biomarker[2][9].
