Overview

Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 30 (RPL5P30) is a processed pseudogene with high sequence similarity to the protein-coding RPL5 gene, which encodes a ribosomal protein of the 60S subunit. As a pseudogene, RPL5P30 does not produce a functional protein and has no known biological activity or role as a therapeutic target. It is not implicated in disease, drug action, or clinical biomarker use. Pseudogenes like RPL5P30 are genomic DNA sequences similar to known genes but generally non-functional due to mutations or lack of necessary transcriptional elements. The functional gene RPL5, distinct from RPL5P30, encodes 60S ribosomal protein L5, which is involved in ribosome biogenesis and p53 regulation and is associated with Diamond–Blackfan anemia and certain cancer contexts. However, RPL5P30 itself does not share these functional attributes. No drugs, disease associations, or mechanisms of action are described for RPL5P30 in biomedical literature or databases. In summary, RPL5P30 is not considered a therapeutic target, lacks biological or disease relevance, and represents a pseudogene rather than a functional molecule.
