Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 32 (RPL5P32) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that shares sequence homology with the functional ribosomal protein L5 (RPL5) gene but does not code for a functional protein[1][2][8]. RPL5P32 resides on chromosome 15 and is annotated as a non-protein-coding processed pseudogene, meaning it was formed through the retrotransposition of an mRNA transcript of RPL5 back into the genome[8][1][2]. Unlike its parent gene RPL5, which encodes a critical ribosomal protein involved in ribosome assembly and function, RPL5P32 and similar pseudogenes are generally non-functional and do not contribute to ribosome structure or cellular processes[8][1][11]. There is no evidence that RPL5P32 has a role as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease-associated gene. No drugs interact with RPL5P32, and it is not involved in any known biological or signaling pathways. As a pseudogene, RPL5P32 is primarily of interest in genomic studies as an example of retrotransposed gene copies that are prevalent throughout the genome[11].
