Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 6 (RPL5P6)

Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 6 (RPL5P6) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome, located at 1p22.2[5][8][13]. Unlike the functional RPL5 gene, which encodes a structural component of the large ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, RPL5P6 lacks protein-coding potential and does not produce a functional protein[8][13]. Pseudogenes like RPL5P6 typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and are considered functionless genomic elements, although rare exceptions exist. There are no reported roles for RPL5P6 in health, disease, or therapeutic intervention. It is sometimes referenced in genomic annotation or as part of background gene sets but has no established biological or clinical significance as a molecular target.
