Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 7 (RPL5P7) is a processed pseudogene related to the RPL5 gene, which encodes a component of the 60S subunit of the ribosome. Pseudogenes such as RPL5P7 do not produce a functional protein; they are considered non-coding genomic elements that arose from duplication or retrotransposition events involving the parental gene (in this case, ribosomal protein L5). There is no evidence that RPL5P7 is expressed or functions as a therapeutic target, drug receptor, or disease-linked molecule. Its sequence is used primarily for genomic study and has no attributed biological or pathological activity. It is not considered a molecular target for pharmacological modulation, nor is it linked to any known disease or drug action pathways. Some pseudogenes play a regulatory role, but there is no evidence RPL5P7 has such a function. The parental gene, RPL5, is well studied and associated with ribosome structure, Diamond-Blackfan anemia, and tumor suppression, but these properties do not apply to RPL5P7—a pseudogene. Databases such as GeneCards confirm RPL5P7's status as a processed pseudogene with "unknown protein-coding potential" and no assigned disease roles or molecular function.
