Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 8 (RPL5P8) is a processed pseudogene derived from the RPL5 gene, which encodes a component of the 60S large ribosomal subunit. RPL5P8 itself is part of a large family of ribosomal protein pseudogenes resulting from retrotransposition events; it is not protein-coding, has no known biological function, and is not associated with human disease or therapeutic targeting. The presence of numerous processed pseudogenes for ribosomal proteins throughout the genome is a well-established finding, but these sequences are generally considered transcriptionally silent, nonfunctional genomic elements[1][2][4][8].
