Ribosomal protein L5 pseudogene 9 (RPL5P9) is a non-coding processed pseudogene found in the human genome. Pseudogenes like RPL5P9 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events of functional genes, in this case, the ribosomal protein L5 gene (RPL5). These sequences generally do not produce functional protein products and lack intrinsic biological function, though in rare cases, pseudogenes may exert regulatory roles. There is currently no evidence that RPL5P9 has clinical, biological, or therapeutic relevance. It is not considered a therapeutic target nor is it associated with known disease involvement or pharmacology. It is explicitly described as a pseudogene and should not be confused with the functional ribosomal protein L5 (RPL5) gene, which plays important roles in ribosome biogenesis, cell proliferation, and tumor suppression. As a pseudogene, RPL5P9 does not fit canonical definitions of a therapeutic target and lacks a recognized role in disease or pharmacology.
