Overview

RPL6P12 (ribosomal protein L6 pseudogene 12) is one of numerous processed pseudogenes derived from the ribosomal protein L6 gene (RPL6). Pseudogenes are genetic elements that arise from duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes, often containing disabling mutations that prevent them from being transcribed or translated into a functional product. There are at least 30 processed pseudogenes related to RPL6 in the human genome, including RPL6P12, but these are generally considered nonfunctional and are not involved in ribosomal structure or protein synthesis[4]. RPL6P12 has no established role in disease, therapy, or as a biomarker, and does not interact with any drugs or therapeutically relevant processes[5][9]. "RPL6P12" and its synonyms/aliases refer to a nonfunctional genomic sequence, so it is **not a therapeutic target**, and its listing as a target would be **incorrect**. It should not be confused with the *functional* ribosomal protein L6 (RPL6), which is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit[3].
