Ribosomal protein L6 pseudogene 17 (RPL6P17) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, related to the functional ribosomal protein L6 (RPL6) gene. Pseudogenes like RPL6P17 result from the duplication and genomic insertion of coding gene sequences, but most acquire disabling mutations and do not produce functional proteins[7]. RPL6P17 is not associated with canonical gene functions, disease roles, drug interactions, or utility as a therapeutic target or biomarker. Its classification as a pseudogene reflects its lack of coding capacity and biological activity; the parent gene, RPL6, is a functional component of the ribosomal large subunit and is involved in protein synthesis, but the pseudogene itself is not functionally active[3][6][7].
