Ribosomal protein L6 pseudogene 18 (RPL6P18) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome, generated from retrotransposition of the functional ribosomal protein L6 gene (RPL6). Unlike its parent gene, RPL6P18 does not code for a functional ribosomal protein and is not transcribed into a functional protein product. Pseudogenes of ribosomal protein genes are common in the genome and mostly considered non-functional genomic relics, though rare regulatory effects exist for some pseudogenes; to date, RPL6P18 has not been shown to play a biological or therapeutic role.
