RPL6P22, or ribosomal protein L6 pseudogene 22, is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein L6 gene, located in the human genome. The original ribosomal protein L6 (RPL6) is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and involved in protein synthesis, but RPL6P22 itself is not protein-coding and does not exert canonical biological functions. Processed pseudogenes like RPL6P22 arise through retrotransposition of mRNA that becomes inserted back into the genome, acquiring mutations that prevent translation into functional protein. They are generally considered "genomic fossils" rather than biologically active targets. There is no evidence linking RPL6P22 to disease, drug interaction, or biomarker utility.
