Pseudogenes like RPL6P24 are common in the human genome; they arise via sequence homology and retrotransposition, resulting in copies that lack regulatory elements or contain disabling mutations, preventing functional protein expression[4]. The parent gene, RPL6, encodes a structural component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit, essential for protein synthesis[5][7]. However, as a pseudogene, RPL6P24 does not encode a functional protein, has no known direct biological function, and is not considered a therapeutic target[4][5][7]. There are about 30 processed pseudogenes for RPL6 in humans, none known to be functional or druggable[4].
