Overview

Ribosomal protein L6 pseudogene 29 (RPL6P29) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It is derived from the ribosomal protein L6 gene (RPL6), which encodes a component of the 60S subunit of ribosomes involved in protein synthesis. Like most pseudogenes, RPL6P29 does not produce a functional protein and is not involved in known biological pathways, disease processes, or therapeutic mechanisms. Pseudogenes such as RPL6P29 are common for ribosomal protein families, reflecting gene duplication or retrotransposition events during evolution, and are generally considered non-functional "genomic fossils" in the current human genome.
