RPL6P31 is one of many pseudogenes in the human genome that share significant sequence similarity with protein-coding ribosomal protein genes, specifically ribosomal protein L6 (RPL6)[6][7]. As a processed pseudogene, RPL6P31 does not encode a functional protein and is not translated. Pseudogenes like RPL6P31 are remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and do not contribute to ribosome function or protein synthesis. Unlike the parent RPL6 gene, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit important for translation and cell growth[3][11][12], RPL6P31 remains molecularly inert and has no established physiological, pathological, or pharmacological relevance[6][7].
