It is related by sequence to the RPL7L1 gene, which encodes a ribosomal protein, but RPL7L1P1 itself is classified as a pseudogene because it does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as RPL7L1P1 typically arise via retrotransposition events and may be dispersed throughout the genome. They generally lack coding potential and are not translated into protein, thus they are not considered therapeutic targets. No specific biological function, disease association, or drug interactions are attributed to RPL7L1P1. It should not be confused with the functional ribosomal protein L7 or with other pseudogene paralogs[4][5][6].
