Overview

Ribosomal protein L7 like 1 pseudogene 22 (RPL7L1P22) is classified as a processed pseudogene in the human genome[7]. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes that have lost their protein-coding ability or are otherwise no longer expressed in the cell. They are usually formed by retrotransposition or duplication events followed by disabling mutations[6]. RPL7L1P22, like most ribosomal protein pseudogenes, does not produce a functional ribosomal protein product. It is distinct from the functional RPL7 or RPL7L1 genes, which encode components of the large ribosomal subunit important for protein biosynthesis[1][5]. No biological function, disease role, or relevance as a therapeutic target is currently attributed to RPL7L1P22[7].
