The ribosomal protein L7 pseudogene (RPL7P) is a processed copy of the RPL7 gene distributed throughout the human genome. Unlike the functional ribosomal protein L7, which is a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and involved in protein synthesis, the pseudogene does not encode an active protein and lacks biological functions. Processed pseudogenes arise from reverse-transcribed messenger RNA incorporated into the genome, accumulation of nucleotide changes, and are typically considered nonfunctional. The functional RPL7 protein can act as an autoantigen in diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus, but the pseudogene itself has no known clinical, therapeutic, or biological relevance[1][2][7].
