Pseudogenes such as RPL7P38 are nonfunctional genomic copies of genes; they typically arise through duplication and subsequent loss of protein-coding ability, often via mutations or truncations. While the parental gene RPL7 encodes a key component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and participates in protein synthesis, RPL7P38 does not code for any known functional protein and is dispersed in the genome without evidence for biological activity, therapeutic targeting, or association with disease.
