Ribosomal protein L7 pseudogene 40 (RPL7P40)

Target
RPL7P40
Molecular classification
Other, pseudogene (specifically a processed pseudogene derived from a ribosomal protein gene)
01

Overview

Ribosomal protein L7 pseudogene 40 (RPL7P40) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It arose via retrotransposition of the functional RPL7 gene, which encodes a component of the 60S large ribosomal subunit. Unlike the functional RPL7 gene, RPL7P40 does not encode a functional protein and is not involved in ribosome structure or protein synthesis. It is one of many processed pseudogenes of ribosomal protein genes scattered throughout the genome, reflecting past gene duplication and retrotransposition events[1][2][5][8].
