Ribosomal protein L7 pseudogene 48 (RPL7P48) is a non-coding, processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L7 (RPL7) gene in the human genome[13][2]. Processed pseudogenes are genetic elements that originate from retrotransposition events of functional mRNAs, resulting in DNA sequences that lack introns and typically are not expressed as functional proteins[15]. While functional ribosomal protein L7 plays a structural and regulatory role as part of the ribosomal large subunit, facilitating binding to ribosomal RNA and inhibition of cell-free translation of mRNAs[10], the RPL7P48 pseudogene does not encode a protein and lacks a recognized role in biological processes or pathology. There is no evidence indicating RPL7P48 functions as a therapeutic target or has any drug interactions, biomarker status, or associated safety considerations. RPL7P48 is a pseudogene, not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any common drug target. It should not be confused with the functional ribosomal protein L7, which is a bona fide ribosomal protein but is encoded by a different locus[10][13][2].
