Overview

**Ribosomal protein L7 pseudogene 49** (RPL7P49) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein L7 gene (RPL7) and is found in the human genome. Like most ribosomal protein pseudogenes, RPL7P49 does not encode a functional protein due to mutations or truncations that prevent proper transcription or translation[10][5][6]. Its sequence has been identified within other genes, such as the first intron of the human c-fms proto-oncogene, but there is no evidence that RPL7P49 has any biological function, role as a therapeutic target, or involvement in disease processes[6]. Unlike the functional ribosomal protein L7, which participates in protein synthesis as part of the 60S ribosomal subunit, RPL7P49 is classified as a non-coding, non-functional genomic element[10].
