Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 13 (RPL7AP13), also known as dJ348M17.1, is a human processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein L7a gene. Pseudogenes are copies of genes that typically do not encode functional proteins due to disabling mutations and are considered genomic "fossils." While many pseudogenes were historically considered nonfunctional, recent research suggests some pseudogenes may have regulatory roles, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs or influencing gene expression of their parental genes in certain biological contexts[2][7]. However, there are no reports that RPL7AP13 encodes a functional protein, serves as a canonical drug target, or acts as a biomarker in clinical settings. Multiple processed pseudogenes for ribosomal proteins exist throughout the genome, reflecting their high evolutionary duplication rate[7]. RPL7AP13 is a pseudogene and does not encode a functional receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other protein target. It should not be categorized as a drug target in biomedical research or clinical pharmacology[5][7].
