Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 20 (RPL7AP20)

Target
RPL7AP20
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; does not encode a functional protein)

Overview

RPL7AP20, ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 20, is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome and named in reference to the ribosomal protein L7a gene, which encodes a protein involved in the large (60S) ribosomal subunit and plays a role in protein synthesis[1][3][2]. Unlike its parent gene (RPL7A), RPL7AP20 does not encode a functional protein and is one of many similar pseudogenes present in the genome[9][3]. Consequently, it does not serve as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or established therapeutic target[3][8][10]. In current literature and gene databases, there are no reports of direct disease involvement, biological function, drug interactions, mechanisms of action, biomarker utility, or safety issues associated with RPL7AP20 specifically[3][8][10].

Mechanism of action

No mechanism; it is not a therapeutic target

03

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes typically do not have a direct biological function; any function would be indirect or uncharacterized)
04

Disease associations

Other (No characterized involvement in disease; functional RPL7A itself has a role in the formation of the ribosome, but pseudogene RPL7AP20 lacks data for disease association)
