Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 21 (RPL7AP21)

Target
RPL7AP21
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene
01

Overview

RPL7AP21 (ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 21) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome, annotated in gene databases as a non-functional copy of the protein-coding RPL7A gene, which encodes ribosomal protein L7a[3][4][2][6]. RPL7AP21 does not produce a functional protein, and there is no current evidence of biological or disease relevance or of druggability. It is one of many ribosomal protein pseudogenes, and unlike the parental RPL7A gene, it has no recognized cellular function or role in disease, nor is it considered a therapeutic target[3][5].

Biological functions

Typically none (most pseudogenes are non-functional and do not encode a protein, but some pseudogene transcripts may regulate parental gene expression via RNA-based mechanisms in rare cases; no such role is currently reported for RPL7AP21.)
03

Disease associations

None known specifically for RPL7AP21General note: Some pseudogenes have been implicated in cancer or other disease via RNA-mediated gene regulation, but there is no evidence for RPL7AP21.
