Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 4 (RPL7AP4)

Overview

Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 4 (RPL7AP4) is a processed pseudogene derived from the RPL7A gene, which encodes a protein component of the 60S large ribosomal subunit in eukaryotes. Pseudogenes like RPL7AP4 do not produce functional proteins and, in most cases, have no direct biological or therapeutic role. While some ribosomal protein pseudogenes may be involved in regulatory RNA functions or are investigated for biomarker potential, there is no evidence that RPL7AP4 is functionally relevant or a drug target in human disease.

Mechanism of action

none (as above; not a protein, so no known mechanism of drug action)

03

Biological functions

Regulatory non-coding roles (some ribosomal pseudogenes may be involved in gene regulation or RNA metabolism)No established biological (protein) function—not involved in translation itself.
04

Disease associations

According to studies of other ribosomal pseudogenes, abnormal expression of certain pseudogenes may be linked to tumorigenesis and cancer progression, though roles of RPL7AP4 specifically have not been established. For example, RPL4P4 (another ribosomal pseudogene) expression is associated with glioma prognosis. No evidence for RPL7AP4, specifically.
