Overview

Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 44 (RPL7AP44) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the ribosomal protein L7a gene (RPL7A). It does not encode a functional protein and is not involved in normal ribosomal function or disease pathways as an active agent. Like many ribosomal protein gene pseudogenes, RPL7AP44 is the result of retrotransposition or gene duplication but is generally considered nonfunctional and is not used as a therapeutic target. The canonical, functional gene in this family (RPL7A) encodes a structural constituent of the large ribosomal subunit involved in protein biosynthesis, but RPL7AP44 itself does not perform this role
