RPL7AP52 is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the ribosomal protein L7a (RPL7A) gene. As a pseudogene, it does not produce a functional protein product. Most ribosomal protein genes have multiple processed pseudogenes scattered across the genome, and RPL7AP52 is one example of such a pseudogene. While some pseudogenes can act as non-coding RNA regulators or have other non-coding roles, there is currently no evidence that RPL7AP52 is a therapeutic target or is involved in cellular signaling, disease, or drug response. RPL7A, the parent gene, encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit, but this does not confer functional significance to the pseudogene. The gene symbol RPL7AP52 is officially designated as a pseudogene by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC), with no evidence of producing a functional protein or having a direct role in cellular biology or disease. Pseudogenes arise from duplication or retrotransposition events; most are non-functional, and their products (if any) are RNA, not functional proteins. Some transcribed pseudogenes in other contexts (e.g., RPSAP52) may have non-coding regulatory roles with disease relevance, but there is no information supporting such a function for RPL7AP52. There is no evidence that ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 52 (RPL7AP52) encodes a protein, acts as a signaling molecule, participates in biological pathways, or represents a druggable/therapeutic target. It represents a non-functional processed pseudogene associated with the ribosomal protein L7a gene family.
