Overview

Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 53 (RPL7AP53) is a human processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein L7a gene. Unlike its parent gene, RPL7AP53 does not encode a functional protein, but pseudogenes may have regulatory roles, often as non-coding RNAs. In recent research, RPL7AP53 expression was found to be differentially regulated in melanoma versus normal tissue, with potential correlations to immune cell infiltration and cancer patient survival—suggesting possible utility as a prognostic biomarker rather than a therapeutic target. No drugs have been documented to act on this pseudogene, and it is not classified as a therapeutic target.
