Overview

Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 55 (RPL7AP55) is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the ribosomal protein L7a gene (RPL7A). Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are generally non-functional; they do not encode active proteins, often due to the accumulation of disabling mutations or the absence of regulatory elements required for expression. RPL7AP55 is one of many such pseudogenes for RPL7A dispersed across the human genome. Unlike the functional ribosomal protein L7a, which is a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, RPL7AP55 does not participate in ribosome assembly or function and is not known to play a direct role in human biology or disease[7][6].
