RPL7AP67 is a pseudogene related to the gene for ribosomal protein L7a. Pseudogenes are noncoding DNA segments derived from functional genes, often through duplication or retrotransposition, that generally do not encode functional proteins[4][5]. While most pseudogenes are thought to be transcriptionally inactive, recent research shows that some pseudogenes can produce regulatory RNA molecules that modulate their parental gene or other genes through transcript competition, miRNA decoy action, or formation of double-stranded RNA[2][6]. There is currently no evidence that RPL7AP67 serves as a drug target, clinical biomarker, or has direct relevance to human disease.
Not applicable for drug targeting; pseudogenes may act as endogenous regulators by RNA-based mechanisms if transcribed[2][6].
