RPL7AP7, ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 7, is a non-functional genomic locus derived from the processing of the functional ribosomal protein L7a gene (RPL7A). As a pseudogene, RPL7AP7 does not encode a protein and lacks biological function by itself. It is one of multiple processed pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome that are homologous to the ribosomal protein L7a gene. Confusion can arise because the true functional gene, *RPL7A*, encodes a structural protein of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[1][4]. The pseudogene carries sequence similarity but does not participate in ribosome structure or cellular processes.
