Overview

Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 71 (RPL7AP71) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome, classified as a retrocopy of the parental RPL7A gene[2][9]. Processed pseudogenes arise from reverse transcription of mRNA and genomic integration but typically lack regulatory sequences and functional coding potential. RPL7AP71 does not encode a functional ribosomal protein and, like other processed pseudogenes, has no known physiological or disease-related function, nor is it a therapeutic target. The canonical functional gene, RPL7A, encodes the 60S ribosomal protein L7a, part of the large subunit of the cytoplasmic ribosome involved in protein synthesis[4][7]; however, RPL7AP71 itself is not expressed as a protein and has no established biological or pharmacological role[2][9][11].
