Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 74 (RPL7AP74) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome, related in sequence to the gene encoding ribosomal protein L7a (RPL7A)[2]. Like other processed pseudogenes, RPL7AP74 is a non-functional copy of its parent gene, generated through the reverse transcription of mRNA and genomic insertion—a common feature among ribosomal protein gene families, which often have numerous such pseudogenes scattered across the genome[5]. Pseudogenes such as RPL7AP74 generally do not encode functional proteins and are not direct therapeutic targets. There is no current evidence indicating that RPL7AP74 has a regulatory or pathophysiological role, nor is it associated with drug responses or used as a clinical biomarker. While some pseudogenes can affect the regulation of their parental genes or act as competing endogenous RNAs in rare cases, there are no specific data supporting such functions for RPL7AP74[5].
