Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 8 (RPL7AP8) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the functional gene encoding ribosomal protein L7a. Pseudogenes like RPL7AP8 do not encode functional proteins and typically have no biological or molecular activity. They arise from the duplication of functional genes, but, due to mutations or loss of regulatory elements, they are generally non-functional[1][8][6]. RPL7AP8 has no established role as a therapeutic target, no known disease association, and is not involved in protein-coding cellular processes. Its naming similarities to functional ribosomal protein genes can cause confusion, but it is distinct in being classified as a non-functional genomic sequence.
