Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 80 (RPL7AP80) is a human pseudogene—an inactive, non-protein-coding segment of DNA that shares high sequence similarity with the functional ribosomal protein L7a gene (RPL7A)[2][4]. As a processed pseudogene, RPL7AP80 has lost its protein-coding capability and does not produce a functional ribosomal protein. Pseudogenes like RPL7AP80 may occasionally have regulatory roles, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs or producing regulatory non-coding RNAs, but there is no specific evidence supporting such a function for this particular pseudogene[6]. RPL7AP80 is not a therapeutic target and does not interact with known drugs. It is not associated with specific diseases, nor used as a biomarker or implicated in therapeutic safety concerns. The functional parent gene, RPL7A, encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit critical for protein synthesis[1][3]. Pseudogenes are generally considered non-functional remnants of genes, although research has shown some may regulate expression of related protein-coding genes in certain contexts[6]. RPL7AP80 is recognized formally by human gene nomenclature authorities as a validated pseudogene[2].
