Overview

Ribosomal protein L7a pseudogene 81 (RPL7AP81) is a non-coding pseudogene in humans on chromosome 1, annotated as Gene ID 122965333[11][16][14]. It shares high sequence similarity with the protein-coding gene for ribosomal protein L7a (RPL7A), but RPL7AP81 does not encode a functional protein[1][11][16]. Like other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, its sequence is a genomic relic of the parent gene and is classified as a processed pseudogene, likely the result of retrotransposition events during evolution[13][12]. There is no evidence this pseudogene encodes a therapeutic drug target, a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or a functional protein. Some pseudogenes can play RNA-level regulatory roles (such as acting as miRNA decoys or as sources of regulatory siRNAs in specific contexts), but there is no information linking RPL7AP81 to such functions[2][5][12]. The parent gene, RPL7A, encodes a ribosomal 60S subunit protein central to protein synthesis in human cells[4][7][10]. Multiple pseudogenes are reported for RPL7A, of which RPL7AP81 is one. RPL7AP81 is not actionable for therapeutics, does not interact with drugs, and has no biomarker or safety concern associations.
